With Dr. Alexander, Who Saved My Life

About David

Let me tell you my story...

In summary, as a child, I had 24 operations before I was ten years old. I had fluid on the brain (hydrocephalus). They sent me home to die after 81 days in the hospital. The neurosurgeons performed an operation that had not been done in the South. They saved my brain. Decades later, the doctor told us this concerning most hydrocephalic patients: "Occasionally someone survived." Even after surviving, many lost most of their mental capacities. I never missed a grade in school, worked full time for 31 years as a Professional Engineer and I've never been a day on disability in my life!
My dream is for every child to live up to their full potential!
It is a key element of my campaign.
I know what it's like to be in a wheelchair...

What the LORD has done for me:

I had 24 operations for hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain) before I was 10. In 1962, I was in the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for 81 days, and had countless procedures, including spinal taps. In one of the spinal taps they severed the nerve in my spine going to my right leg, and permanently paralyzed the leg. A few weeks, after returning home, my parents drove me back to the Hospital where they performed emergency, experimental surgery on me that had never been done in the South. They saved my life, and I never missed a grade in school, graduating at age 17 as a member of the Beta Club.

During my last semester in High School, I was bleeding to death, and the doctors at the hospital performed an Ileostomy Operation. I still graduated with my class. I earned my BS with HONORS in Civil Engineering and my Master of Civil Engineering degree from North Carolina State University. In 1979, after working for 5 years with a P.E., I qualified for and passed the Professional Engineers exam at age 27.

I worked for the City of Raleigh, North Carolina for 10+ years, and for the North Carolina Department of Transportation for 21+ years. I have NEVER been on disability a day in my life! I want to win this race for the Glory of God!

I am a Board-certified Professional Engineer.

Under North Carolina statute, the job of a Board-certified Professional Engineer is to PROTECT the public welfare and safety. "The Professional Engineer... shall conduct his practice in order to protect the public health, safety and welfare." (NC General Statute 89C)

My job is to PROTECT you, whatever it takes.
My dream is for every child to be given a chance to live up to their full potential!
I know what it's like to be in a wheelchair...
I also know what it's like to fight against seemingly insurmountable odds!
I want to fight for you and with you in the Legislature now!
I would be honored by your vote for me.
